The Myers-Briggs types are the most popular personality typology used today. They expand upon Carl Jung's psychological types and are broken down into four dimensions.
There are 16 possible combinations of these four dimensions that result in 16 possible types:
ISFJ, ESFJ, INFJ, ENFJ, ISTJ, ESTJ, INTJ, ENTJ, ISFP, ESFP, INFP, ENFP, ISTP, ESTP, INTP, and ENTP.
When a dimension is indeterminate for an individual the letter x is often used. For example, if an individual scores evenly on the Introversion/Extraversion dimension then an x is used for that dimension and the individual would be one of the following:
xSFJ, xNFJ, xSTJ, xNTJ, xSFP, xNFP, xSTP, or xNTP.
The x notation may also be used when talking about only certain dimensions (e.g., individuals with N and P might be referred to in general as xNxP to indicate that the IE and FT dimensions are irrelevant to the discussion).
